Head of Membership
This position reports to the Executive Director and will require 5-10 hours per week with the potential for more prior to major release dates, meetings, or events. This is an unpaid, volunteer position.
The Head of Membership will guide the department to fulfill its mandate:
The Membership Department will be responsible for expansion of the sport into new parts of the world through local expansion team members, creation of resources for existing and developing National Governing Bodies (NGBs), and support of the NGBs where necessary. This may include researching and creating written resources, meeting with NGBs, sending letters of support, etc. The Membership Department will also develop and implement processes through which to distribute funds reserved for charity to NGBs and other projects.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop position descriptions and select volunteers for positions within the department in collaboration with the Head of Human Resources
- Manage volunteers within the department to fulfil the departmental mandate and the IQA’s short- and long-term goals
- Attend regular meetings with all departmental heads
- Collaborate with other departmental heads as necessary to complete organization-wide projects
- Oversee outreach to and communication with people or groups interested in starting quidditch all over the world
- Oversee creation of resources for NGBs and new quidditch players and communities
- Liaise with and provide support to existing member NGBs
- Develop, implement, and enforce membership policy within the IQA
- Oversee distribution of funds from the development fund
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- At least 2 years experience within the sport of quidditch as a player, coach, team or NGB volunteer, or match official
- Experience founding or running a team, club, or NGB (for quidditch or other) preferred
- Understanding of research processes an asset
- Experience working with people from diverse parts of the world, and a basic understanding of a variety of cultures
- At least 1 year experience in a leadership position
- Excellent computer skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and comfort with a collaborative, team-based working style
- High professional ethical standards
- Excellent written and verbal English and understanding of how to communicate with people who speak English as an additional language; other languages an asset
